This apartment is located in Nieuwmarkt in the centre of Old Amsterdam. Nieuwmarkt square is filled with shops, cafes, bars and the popular market. It is home to De Waag, an old weight house that used to form part of the city walls constructed in 1481. During the 16th century boats would stop here, unload their goods, weigh them and pay the required taxes. Today the building houses a restaurant and is a great place to stop for a drink on a warm afternoon. The centre of Amsterdam, Dam Square, can be reached on foot and is home to the stunning Royal Palace, Madame Tussauds, the New Church and De Bijenkorf department store. For art lovers Rembrandt House is just a short distance from the apartment and it is here he lived and worked for many years. Many of the major attractions are within walking distance of the apartment, while the Metro and trams provide public transport options allowing you to get to any part of the city with ease.
