Rembrandt-Square
The Rembrandt-Square is a famous square in the centre of Amsterdam. It is situated between Regulierbree-street and the Amstel-street. The square already exists hundreds of years and has in all that time been called many different names. In this vain the square was named the Wagen-Square for a while and was also known as the Butter-market for a while. It namely served many years as a market, where farmers out of the area could display their wares. Only in nineteenth century did the square receive the name it now has. At the time a gigantic statue of the painter Rembrandt was placed there, although he had been dead for more than two hundred years prior to its placement.
These days the Rembrandt-square is the heart of nightlife in our capital. Nice pubs are interspersed with discos. An advantage of the Rembrandt-square is that is easily accessible. It is situated in the middle of Amsterdam, and so it is walking distance from most of our apartments. If you are a little further away or don’t feel like walking there are many frequent trams which stop on the Rembrandt-square.
Leidse-Square
The Leidse-square, is the square which lies in an extension of the Leidse-street. Here people can find all sorts of terraces, theatres and other culinary establishments. Moreover the square plays host to many street musicians, who display their talent on the square.
